All Electric Cars + All Renewable Energy

Fully electric cars are an inevitability of the future, yet consumers of the world continue to think of electric cars as just that: a device of the future, a sci-fi dream on par with space cities, artificial intelligence, and fission power.

But we already have the technology for electric cars, and have had it for some time. The absence of mass-produced electric vehicles is not a result of a complex or expensive design; it is the result of poor marketing and the conservative vision of automobile manufacturers.

The often lauded problem with a vision of mainstreamed electric cars is the assumption that the car would take a great deal of time to charge.

Previous electric car designs have required overnight charging, with upwards of 4 - 8 hours required for a full charge. Other common designs have required an hour to charge, with some high-power designs able to charge in as little as 15 minutes.

A second problem, inextricably connected to the charging issue, is the limited range of electric cars. A commonly considered case is GM’s EV1, with only 60 and 80 miles on a full lead-acid battery charge or 120 miles on a full Nickel Metal Hydride battery charge.

Recent lithium ion battery technology advancement has increased to between 200 and 300 miles; however, there has been no major production of electric cars to test out the new battery technology.

The average consumer is not going to wait at a charging station for 15 minutes, let alone an hour, while waiting for the car to fuel up when traveling beyond the range of a single charge.

The Renewable Solution

An infrastructure for electric cars will have to originate with power produced from non-renewable resources because that is how our electricity is currently produced; some might point out that the cars would still rely on fossil fuels for energy.

Taking a look at the fuel cost and efficiency of electric cars and gasoline-powered cars, the equivalent amount of electricity to fill up your electric car is a third less expensive than that amount of energy in gasoline burned in an engine.

Electricity from the power grid is also more environmentally friendly than gasoline, even electricity produced from fossil-fuel burning power plants; power plants produce electricity in a centralized location, causing a smaller environmental footprint than the thousands of internal combustion engines that currently sprawl along our nation’s roadways. Overall, electric cars are cheaper and more environmentally friendly gasoline-powered cars.

The most striking benefit of going electric is that the infrastructure is a key that provides the funds to begin a complete conversion of both the power network and the transportation network to renewable energy.

A typical electric car costs from 2 to 4 cents per mile to operate, while gasoline costs about twice as much. Electric cars also don’t require the normal maintenance that gasoline cars require, such as oil changes and engine checkups.

Because electric cars are operated and maintained much more cheaply than gasoline powered cars, they can be provided to consumers at a lower cost than gasoline powered cars and still make a significant enough profit to fund a large-scale conversion to renewable energy.

Imagine a mainstream conversion to electric cars, a charging network that costs the user significantly less than gasoline, and a chunk of the proceeds spent on developing renewable energy sources, which will in turn fuel the charging network.

We ask for your support and participation in this vision ; a vision that leads to renewable energy and a sustainable and simple transportation power source for the United States. We have a system that is inevitable, simple, and incredibly lucrative. It is an entirely new market: integrating sustainability with our modern lifestyle, and it will be the most essential market from this century into the next.
